Councillor Eric Meyer Appointed Deputy Mayor

Councillor Eric Meyer has been appointed Deputy Chief Elected Official (Deputy Mayor). Councillors are appointed as Deputy Mayor for four-month terms to act as Mayor in the absence or incapacity of the Mayor. Councillor Meyer will serve until February 29, 2024 or until the appointment of the next Deputy Chief Elected Official.

Council Sets Public Corporate Plan Meetings and 2023-2024 Meeting Schedule

Council’s calendar has been set for the upcoming year. Governance and Priorities Committee Meetings as well as Regular Council Meetings will be held in Council Chambers at 5 p.m. The public Corporate Plan Meetings have been scheduled for November 6, 7, and 8.

Council Appointments to Agencies, Boards and Commissions

Council members have been appointed to Agencies, Boards, and Commissions for the remainder of 2023 until the Organizational Meeting of 2024, or when amended by Council resolution. This aligns with the Stony Plain Strategic Plan 2023-2026's goal of ensuring the representation of Stony Plain's interests in local and regional committees, boards, and plans.

Several community members have been appointed to fill Citizen at Large vacancies. Members of Council-appointed boards and committees provide input for consideration during decision-making impacting current and future projects and initiatives within Stony Plain.

Brickyard Road Closure Bylaw 2680/RC/23 Amended

In anticipation of a potential complication with Alberta Land Titles, Road Closure Bylaw 2663/RC/22 was amended by Council to include a written legal description as part of Schedule A of the bylaw.

First, second and third readings were given to Bylaw 2680/RC/23 to amend Road Closure Bylaw 2663/RC/22 and was adopted by Council.

Business Licence Bylaw 2679/LIC/23 Given First Reading

The Business Licence Bylaw is designed to provide for the licensing control and regulation of any business or industry within the Town of Stony Plain. Town bylaws are reviewed on a prescribed schedule to ensure their effectiveness and relevancy. The second and third readings are scheduled to be presented to Council on November 14.

Council Approves Art in Public Places Policy

Council has approved the Art in Public Places Policy. This policy is a comprehensive framework that outlines the mandate, responsibilities, and funding model for the Art in Public Places program. This policy is the result of the review of the Public Art Policy C-CD-016 which was approved in 2015 and to align with the 2023 Art in Public Places Strategy recommendations.

Policy Development Policy Update Approved by Council

Council has approved the updated Policy Development policy as presented by Administration. This policy was originally approved by Council in 2018 and scheduled for review in 2022. The purpose of the Policy Development policy is to clarify the difference between a Council policy and an Administrative policy and outline the roles and responsibilities of each.

2023 Third Quarter Report Presented to Council

The third Quarterly Report of 2023 has been presented to Council. Quarterly reports are comprehensive reporting tools that serve as benchmarks for the ongoing operation of the Town of Stony Plain. Throughout the year, reports are compiled to track progress toward strategic goals and highlight achievements across the organization.

Strategic & Corporate Plan Q3 2023 Report Presented to Council

Council was presented the Strategic & Corporate Plan Q3 2023 Report by Administration, which aligns work, allocates resources, and outlines measured progress in the achievement of the Strategic Plan. The Strategic & Corporate Plan quarterly report provides the progress status on actions and results of key initiatives.
