Regular Council Meeting Highlights for December 14, 2020
Tri-Region Moves Forward with Regional Plan
Together with regional partners, the Town is moving forward with the Tri-Municipal Regional Plan (TMRP). Council was presented with the plan during last night’s meeting and have accepted the update for information. Following the signing of a letter of intent in January of 2019, Parkland County, the City of Spruce Grove, and the Town of Stony Plain have worked in collaboration to develop the TMRP. Mayor’s Task Force Presents Community Resiliency Interim Report
Council was joined by the Mayor’s Task Force on Community Resiliency for a presentation of the group’s interim report. Following the COVID-19 outbreak, Mayor’s Task Forces were established to address challenges faced by residents during and following the crisis. Two streams were created, Economic and Social, with both wrapping up in July. The Mayor’s Task Force on Community Resiliency was launched in September to build on the immediate relief measures provided by both the Economic and Social streams earlier in the year.
The Mayor’s Task Force on Community Resiliency will present a final report to Council by June 1, 2021.

Regional Transit Given the Greenlight
The Town is moving forward with regional transit. During last night’s meeting, Council adopted the revised Regional Transit Services Commission (RTSC) Resolution. The creation of the RTSC was first supported by Council at the February 24 meeting. The RTSC aims to increase transit mobility and integration within the Edmonton Metropolitan region at a lower cost. Eight municipalities have committed to participating in the RTSC including the City of Beaumont, the Town of Devon, the City of Edmonton, the City of Fort Saskatchewan, the City of Leduc, the City of St. Albert, the City of Spruce Grove, and the Town of Stony Plain.

New Member Appointed to the Planning Advisory Committee
The Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) gained a new member last night. Council appointed Hughena Burke to the PAC effective January 1, 2021. Citizen-at-Large boards are made up of community members selected through an annual recruitment process, this year’s recruitment taking place in July and August.

Town Prepares for 2021 Municipal Election with Appointment of Returning Officers
With the 2021 municipal election scheduled for next fall, preparations are under way. Council appointed Legislative Services Manager LaRae Ellis as Returning Officer and Legislative Coordinator Christina Michaud as Substitute Returning Officer for the upcoming election. The 2021 municipal election will be held on October 18, 2021. More details including information on the nomination process will be made available in the months ahead.
