Councillor Justin Laurie Appointed as Deputy Mayor
Councillor Justin Laurie has been appointed Deputy Chief Elected Official (Deputy Mayor). Councillors are appointed as Deputy Mayor for four-month terms to act as Mayor in the absence or incapacity of the Mayor. Councillor Laurie will serve until October 24, 2024, or until the appointment of the next Deputy Mayor.

Stony Plain Public Library 2023 Annual Report Presented to Council
At last night’s Council meeting, Stony Plain Public Library Board Director Laina Kelly, Vice Chair Claire Callbeck, and House Treasurer Dawn Horne presented the Stony Plain Public Library’s 2023 Annual Report.
The Stony Plain Public Library's 2023 Annual Report highlighted increased public engagement, social reach, and community involvement through events and campaigns such as the social media campaign “Meet the Staff,” which increased the library’s Facebook reach by 50,000 since 2022. They also reported increased attendance, noting they welcomed 60,971 more visitors in 2023 compared to 2022. Council accepted the Stony Plain Public Library 2023 Annual Report for information.

Fire Department Master Plan Update Postponed by Council
At last night’s meeting, Council passed a motion to postpone the Fire Department Master Plan update to come back to Council prior to the end of 2024. Originally developed in 2019 by Behr Integrated Solutions Inc., the Fire Department Master Plan outlined 16 recommendations for long-term and short-term safety enhancements, service design, operational capacity, and standards.
