Regular Council Meeting Highlights for November 23, 2020
Council Remuneration Committee Presents Final Report
Council was joined for a presentation by the Council Remuneration committee last night. The committee of public members was established in February this year and while meetings were delayed by COVID-19, the group was able to meet to review remuneration for the Council term of October 2021 – 2025.
The committee outlined seven recommendations including additions to the Terms of Reference for the next Council Remuneration Committee, a freeze on the base honorarium and cost of living allowance for the four year Council term, adjustments to technology allowance, a reduction to the connectivity allowance for Mayor and Councillors, a decrease to the education budget per Council member, and the creation of a method to report committee remuneration received from external entities for increased transparency.
Council will debate the Council Compensation and Expenses Policy effective for the 2021 – 2025 Council term in January 2021.

Fees and Charges Bylaw Given First, Second, and Third Reading
The Fees and Charges Bylaw was on the agenda last night. Council reviews the bylaw annually, with the updated fees driving revenue projections within the Corporate Plan. With Council approving the Fees and Charges Bylaw, the updated bylaw will be available for residents and business owners on the Town website. Changes to utility rates will be communicated to users through their next monthly bills.

Golf Course Wraps up Summer Season with Operational Update
The Stony Plain Golf Course presented an operational update following the end of the golfing season. Despite the late opening due to COVID-19, the golf course was a popular destination for community members. Just under 33,000 rounds were played this season – over 10,000 more rounds than the previous year. The Golf Course team is preparing for the winter season which includes operation of the winter simulator league and preparations for the 2021 golf season.

Council Approves Final Corporate Plan 2021 – 2023
The finalized Corporate Plan 2021 – 2023 has been approved. A draft plan was reviewed and deliberated by Council at public meetings held earlier this month. During the November 2 and 3 meetings, Council passed several motions to adjust 2021 expenditures and lay the framework for the next three years of development.
