Shred It Returns to Stony Plain
Shred-It is a free event open to all Stony Plain residents. The event will be held at Rotary Recycling Facility, Saturday 28, 2019 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Stony Plain residents and small businesses needing to dispose of personal and confidential documents in a safe and secure manner are welcome to attend.
“As identity theft continues to skyrocket and criminals become more sophisticated with their hacking, disposing of personal information safely and securely is extremely important to our residents,” says Mayor William Choy. “We are happy to host this free event as not everyone has the means to safely dispose their documents at home.”
The best way to protect against identity theft is to ensure all personal and confidential documents are securely disposed of. The Town recommends shredding the following items:
- Financial documents including bank statements and receipts.
- Any document containing personal information such as birth dates and social insurance numbers.
- Paper notes containing login, password information and account details for online sites.
- All mail, including junk mail, containing personal information.
“As a community, we take pride in providing annual, free service events to help our residents dispose of such materials,” says Ashlee Morrow, Operations Administration Assistant with Public Works. “Not only does the Shred-It event help protect against identity theft, but it also goes hand-in-hand with our Don’t Just Trash It! program as it is a green initiative.”
Due to the growing popularity of the Shred-It event, some restrictions for this year have been implemented:
- Shred-It will be available to Stony Plain residents only. IDs will be checked onsite.
- Each vehicle will be bound by a 10 banker box limit.
- No advance drop offs will be accepted.
