The Stony Plain Fire Department is excited to announce the unveiling of a Memorial Bench at the east entrance of the Fire Hall this weekend. The bench is a project spearheaded by members of the Fire Hall in memory of those no longer with us.

“Last year, members of the Fire Hall wanted to leave something behind as a legacy project. We kicked around different ideas and finally settled on a memorial bench for members who have passed on,” Trevor Mistal, Fire Chief says. “A lot of volunteer labour went into the bench as well as donations and assistance from local businesses.”

In recognition of Fire Hall members, the Memorial Bench will feature the names of Stony Plain firefighters. A time capsule will also be filled by the Fire Department and buried in the column of the bench set to be opened on the 50th anniversary.

Former Fire Hall crew members and donors will unveil the bench together on Sunday, September 13 at 2PM at the Stony Plain Fire Hall (4000 49 Avenue, Stony Plain). Mayor William Choy and Parkland County Mayor Rodney Shaigec will join the Fire Department for the unveiling and also to christen a new fire truck that will service both municipalities.
