STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain is pleased to announce the release of its 2023 Annual Report. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to review the document to gain insights into the past year’s significant milestones, accomplishments, financial highlights, and other essential details about the Town's operations.

The Annual Report is a comprehensive resource that provides an in-depth look at the Town’s progress toward its strategic goals, detailing various projects and initiatives alongside a thorough financial report. This annual publication is a collaborative effort between the Communications and Finance departments, aligning with the guidelines set out by the Canadian Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAnFR) Program.

Highlights from the 2023 Annual Report include:

1. Significant Economic Growth and Opportunities

  • The number of business licenses issued in 2023 totaled 965, with notable expansions such as the relocation of English Bay Blending & Fine Chocolates to a new $30 million, 120,000-square-foot facility, which will create over 75 permanent jobs by 2025.

2. Enhanced Community Engagement and Communication

  • Installation of five new community bulletin boards in strategic locations helps enhance local engagement and information dissemination.

3. Regional Collaboration and Leadership

  • Stony Plain remains a committed member of the Tri-Municipal Region and the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board (EMRB), highlighting a unified approach to regional well-being and development.
  • Mayor William Choy’s transition of the EMRB Chairperson role to Parkland County Mayor Allan Gamble marks a continued commitment to collaborative regional efforts.

4. Infrastructure and Transit Improvements

  • The on-demand transit system for Route 565 led to a dramatic 505% increase in ridership, enhancing flexibility and accessibility for residents.
  • Key projects like the Old Town South Redevelopment and the installation of a new Liberty Swing in Rotary Park illustrate a focus on improving community facilities and inclusivity.

5. Environmental Initiatives

  • Introduction of a Tire Recycling Pilot Project and the acquisition of electric vehicles for the municipal fleet demonstrate Stony Plain’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
  • Community engagement in environmental initiatives, such as the Don’t Just Trash It! campaign, has resulted in a 50% waste diversion rate from the landfill, highlighting the Town’s leadership in green innovation.
