Poverty exists in Stony Plain. 1 in 7 of us struggle to maintain a basic living. When one of us struggles, we all struggle. Luckily, our community has a plan.

The Town of Stony Plain is proud to present a draft of the 2021 Stony Plain Poverty Reduction Strategy. Join us virtually on May 26 for an overview of the strategy and an opportunity to discuss.

“This plan belongs to all of us and only together will we be able to address poverty in our community,” shares Community Development Officer, Sharida Csillag. “This is an opportunity for community to take a peek and let us know if we missed anything.”

In addition to the virtual presentation, a community survey has been opened to obtain feedback on the draft strategy. Feedback from both the survey and virtual session will be taken into consideration in preparing the final strategy will be presented to Town Council.

This is just the first step in this phase of our work; once the strategy is accepted, community will be called together in the fall of 2021 to review the 2018 action plan and create an updated action plan to accompany the strategy.

Lisa Gilchrist, General Manager of Community and Social Development states, “The last year has been a challenging one for our community due to the pandemic with many social and economic impacts. Crisis can also create opportunity; opportunity to re-think, re-envision and re-energize our efforts. This the perfect time to refresh our focus on this important social issue. Together we can move forward and create a better and stronger community for all.”
