The woodchipper is gassed up and ready to go – Christmas Tree Chipping is back! The annual event invites community members to dispose of their trees at the Rotary Recycling Centre to be chipped and made into mulch for use in community landscaping.

Stony Plain residents can participate in the green initiative by bringing their Christmas tree to the Rotary Recycling Centre (4505 50 Avenue) between December 26 and January 17. Trees must be unwrapped and free of any decorations. All trees need to be dropped off at the Rotary Recycling Centre by the end of the day on January 17 – trees will not be accepted after this date.

“Rather than winding up in a landfill, Christmas trees can be turned into mulch and reused in our community parks, greenspaces, and other landscaping projects. It’s a great seasonal green initiative we have here in town!” says Mayor William Choy. “The event pairs nicely with the Town’s Don’t Just Trash It! household waste campaign that runs throughout the year.”

“When residents participate in our tree chipping event, they’re not only being environmentally conscious but also contributing to important landscaping projects throughout the community,” says Operations Administrative Assistant Ashlee Morrow. “We’re really proud of our community for showing up year after year to participate in the event!”

Christmas trees free of decorations can be dropped off at the Rotary Recycling Centre on or before January 17. Please note physical distancing guidelines are in place. For more information on Don’t Just Trash It! and waste disposal in town, visit our website.
