The Walking Dead House Lives On with a New Home & the Halloween Haunted House Hunt is Back
STONY PLAIN, AB: Halloween season is here, and Stony Plain has exciting news to share. This year's celebrations include the return of the Halloween Haunted House Hunt, and there's a spooky transformation in store. The Parkland Search and Rescue Haunted House will reemerge as The Walking Dead House, hosted by the Town of Stony Plain and Parkland Search and Rescue (PSAR) at Heritage Park!
In previous years, The Walking Dead House has been a Halloween staple in Stony Plain. However, the private Stony Plain residents who historically organized this attraction have decided to no longer host the event. As a result, the Town has acquired spine-tingling decorations and secured sponsorships from this well-known attraction. This year’s free event is at Heritage Park on October 28, with two sessions, 10 AM to 1 PM and 4 PM to 7 PM. The Walking Dead House will feature concessions, fantasy photography, and two haunted house routes accessible during both sessions. One route caters to the faint of heart, offering family-friendly thrills (recommended for ages 0 – 8), while the other is designed to provide a scarier experience (recommended for ages 8+). But the thrills don't end there.
Additional activities during the event:
From 10 AM to 1 PM:
- Cookie decorating
- Fishing for treats
- 1 PM showing of a PG-rated movie
From 4 PM to 7 PM:
- Axe throwing
- 7 PM presentation of an R-rated movie
"We're very excited to host The Walking Dead House this year. It's been a Halloween staple in Stony Plain for many years, and we're happy to continue the tradition in our community in a new way. This year's event at Heritage Park will offer lots of activities and Halloween fun for the whole family," says Event Coordinator Tevra Graham. “We’ll also continue to raise donations for the Parkland Food Bank and PSAR.”
In addition to The Walking Dead House, Stony Plain is still organizing the Halloween Haunted House Hunt. Starting October 21, daily clues will be posted on the Halloween web page at 9 AM leading to five miniature haunted houses hidden within Stony Plain's public spaces. One house will be hidden at a time. As each house is discovered, another will be hidden until all five haunted houses have been found. The lucky house hunter who finds one of these spooky houses can bring it to the Town Office during business hours to claim a prize, with a limit of one prize per person.
“The Halloween Haunted House Hunt has been a highly popular Halloween event in Stony Plain since 2020. We're excited to continue the hunt this year and wish all participants the best of luck,” says Graham.
