Town of Stony Plain Calling on Students to Apply for 2019 Delegation to Japan
The Town of Stony Plain is looking for students to apply for the incredible chance to join the summer delegation to its sister town of Shikaoi, Japan. There are 10 spots available in the delegation, which will travel to Japan from July 2 to 16.
During their stay, students will experience new culture and traditions, see beautiful sights, enjoy Japanese food, and make meaningful and lasting friendships. This program is ideal for students who are outgoing, mature, respectful, and have an interest in Japanese culture and the relationship between Shikaoi and Stony Plain. Students must be between the ages of 14 and 18 and going into grades 10, 11, or 12.
“This is a unique and exciting opportunity for local youth,” says Community Services Coordinator Kelly Maluta. “Students who have taken part in the past speak fondly about how amazing the experience was, and about the wonderful life-long memories and relationships they created during their time in Japan.”
Applicants must be available for travel to Japan from July 2 to 16 and willing to host visiting Shikaoi students during the next student exchange in October of this year. Candidates must also have a valid Canadian passport prior to April 30, 2019 and will be asked to complete an application package.
“The Town’s relationship with Shikaoi is a very special one, and the delegations to and from Japan are some of our community’s most cherished traditions,” says Mayor William Choy. “If you’ve got the travel bug, I encourage you to apply for this chance to visit Japan as cultural ambassadors from Stony Plain!”
The deadline for application is Thursday, March 21. Please visit www.stonyplain.com/japan to learn more or to download the application package.
