Toys for Tickets Returning for the Holiday Season
‘Tis the season to trade toys for tickets! Stony Plain Enforcement Services’ annual Toys for Tickets program is retuning to town this holiday season. Municipal parking tickets issued between October 23 and November 27 can be paid off with a donation of a new toy for the Stony Plain Kinsmen Club’s annual Christmas Hampers.
“Toys for Tickets is entering its fifth year and while there is always a need, this year is seeing an even higher than normal demand as a result of the global health pandemic. It has been an especially tough year for all of us,” says Enforcement Services Supervisor Tiffany Anderson. “Toys for Tickets is a great opportunity for residents to show their support for their neighbours. It’s an amazing feeling to see the toy pile grow under the tree and the community support we witness every year is fantastic. We encourage residents to get involved and help make a local family’s holiday extra special this year.”
Program guidelines and criteria are as follows:
- Toys must be new and in original packaging
- Toys must be suitable for children 16 years of age or younger
- Toy value must be equal to or greater than $25
- New gift cards valued at $25 or more will also be accepted
- A receipt must be included with each toy or gift card donation
- Only municipal parking tickets with a Stony Plain Bylaw Tag are eligible for the Toys for Tickets program
- Fines issued for Emergency Access, Handicap, Commercial Vehicle, and Dangerous Goods parking violations are not eligible
- Residents do not have to receive a parking ticket to donate
“Last year we were able to help 629 families, nearly 1,800 people, in Stony Plain and Parkland west area. The toys we receive make a huge difference for local families in need. Parents are able to give their children gifts, and it really brightens the holidays for these families,” says Ed Berney, Chairman of the Kinsmen Christmas Hampers. “This year, with the COVID situation, we expect the need to grow for the Christmas Hampers. The Toys for Tickets program helps bring joy to families and it also lets them know the community cares and is there for them.”
For those wanting to pay their Stony Plain parking tickets with a donation to the Christmas Hampers, toy payments can be made at Town Office between 8:30AM and 4:30PM from October 23 to December 11. To learn more about the Toys for Tickets program, visit the Town website.
