Spring cleaning? Just in time for the annual Treasure Hunt and Large Item Drop Off! Treasure Hunt is returning May 3 and 4, and Large Item Drop Off will take place May 5.

Join in on the fun and shop curbside of participating neighbours’ homes to discover reusable treasures during

Treasure Hunt. Please note only items at the curbside of residences are considered a part of the Treasure Hunt. Residents are encouraged to donate any leftover usable items to local organizations for repurposing. Additionally, any large items that weren’t claimed can be taken to the Public Works yard for free disposal during the Large Item Drop Off event on May 5 from 9 AM to 4 PM.

“Treasure Hunt is a great opportunity to pair spring cleaning with community fun,” says Operations Administrative Assistant Patricia Cook. “The goal of Treasure Hunt is to encourage residents to recycle, repurpose, reuse household items and treasures they find during the event.”

There is no limit to the number of items residents can discard during Large Item Drop Off; however, only eligible items will be accepted. Participants must provide identification verifying their Stony Plain residency and unload their own items into the designated bins.

Items eligible for drop off include:

  • Large appliances
  • Fridges
  • Stoves
  • Exercise equipment
  • BBQs
  • Furniture
  • Wood pallets
  • Bicycles

Ineligible items include:

  • Household garbage
  • Construction waste
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Hazardous materials
  • Toilets and sinks

“The annual Treasure Hunt is long standing tradition in Stony Plain,” says Mayor William Choy. “I encourage everyone to take this event as an opportunity to explore your neighbourhood, meet neighbours, and have fun!”

Residents participating in Treasure Hunt are reminded to remove leftover items from the curbside following the event. Left over items can be taken to local donation store, or they can be brought to the Large Item Drop Off.
