Cross Country Ski Trails

The Stony Plain Golf Course has cross-country ski trails open during the winter. You can access the trails from Fairway Drive, just east of the golf course entrance and the Fairway Green gated community.

Ski trails Rules:

  • Stay on the trails 
  • No dogs allowed

The Golf Course parking lot is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On-street parking is available.

Public Skating

Public Skating is cancelled for the rest of the 2020-21 Season

The arena is open for FREE public skating September through March. 

  • Sundays: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Mondays and Wednesdays: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Fridays: 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

You do not need to book in advance. There is a 50-person capacity limit on the ice at all times. Doors open 15 minutes prior to the skating start time. Staff will continue to monitor the number of people on the ice.

Off-leash Dog Park

The Umbach Off-leash Dog Park is at 969 Boulder Boulevard in the North Business Park. The park is open all year and has:

  • Parking
  • Paths and benches
  • Sheltered area
  • Grass
  • Storm Water Pond (not safe for swimming or drinking)
  • Fencing
  • Garbage cans and pet waste bags

Report a problem with the Off-leash Dog Park.

Dog Agility Course

The first of its kind in Western Canada! The Umbach Off-leash Dog Agility Course is free to use and based on a course used for the 2015 IFCS World Agility Championship. It features 21 obstacles for both beginner and advanced dogs and trainers.



Outdoor Skating Rinks

The Town of Stony Plain operates five outdoor ice surfaces.

Physical distancing must be followed when using the rinks. All rink shacks are currently closed. Benches are available for skate tying only. Consider others and limit your time when others are waiting.

Rink Maximums: 10 skaters on the ice at one time

Rotary Park/South Creek Oval Maximum: 30 skaters on the ice at one time

Alberta Health Services has directed that no shinny and/or pick up games are permitted at this time. Please see the COVID-19 Guidance for Winter Recreation document for more information.


  • Please stay off surfaces during maintenance times 
  • Rinks close at 6:00 p.m. on December 24 and 31st

Outdoor rinks will be closed if the weather is below -20 degrees, in times of heavy snowfall or unseasonably warm temperatures. If you choose to use the rinks in these conditions, be aware the rinks will be unsupervised and the change rooms will be closed.


Outdoor Wellness Park

The Rotary Wellness Park is located at 4210-44 Avenue. You can find various pieces of gym equipment all year long.

Rotary Park

Rotary ParkThe Rotary Park is at 4815-44 Avenue. The park features:

  • Painted bridges
  • Trails
  • Pond
  • Playground
  • Gazebo

Rotary Park is is home to the Stony Plain Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Information Centre.


Skating area

There is a skating area in the winter with Christmas lights. 

Shikaoi Park

Shikaoi ParkShikaoi Park is a Japanese garden located at 4905-51 Avenue. The Park honours the friendship between Shikaoi, Japan and Stony Plain. 


Skate Park

The Stony Plain Skate Park is on 49 Avenue at the north end of Brown Street. The park features:

  • Half-pipe
  • Table-top
  • Ledges
  • Kinked hand-rail


Users should wear proper protective equipment. The skate park is not supervised and anyone using the facility does so at their own risk. Bicycles are not allowed at the Skate Park.

Spray Park

The Spray Park is closed for the 2020 Season.The Stony Plain Rotary Spray Park is next to the Stony Plain Outdoor Pool at 5210-55 Avenue. Using the park is free.

Spray Park rules:

  • Parents must supervise children
  • No glass
  • No pets
  • No skateboards, bicycles or other equipment

Footwear is recommended.

Stony Plain Outdoor Pool

The Stony Plain Outdoor Pool is at 5210-55 Avenue.

The pool has been making a splash in the community for more than 40 years. The Town of Stony Plain works collaboratively with the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre to operate the six-lane outdoor pool from mid-May to the end of August.

There are over 43 kilometers of trails in Stony Plain. The trail system links our community together. You may use the trails for biking, walking, rollerblading, and jogging. Some parts of the trail system are wheelchair accessible.

Transalta Tri-Leisure Centre

The Transalta Tri-Leisure Centre is at 221 Jennifer Heil Way in Spruce Grove. 

Whispering Waters Park

Whispering Waters Park is located on Brown Street, across from the Rotary Recycling Centre (4505-50 Avenue). There is a group shelter area along the trail.

Willow Park Natural Area

Willow Park Natural Area is a natural urban reserve east of the Willow Park subdivision. You can find native grasses, trees and shrubs in the area as well as many small birds and wildlife. The area has over 150 meters of trails running through it.
