The Town of Stony Plain maintains a variety of indoor and outdoor sports facilities, including arena, fields, diamonds and courts. Recreation facilities are available for public use, schools, group booking and private rentals.

Public skating at Glenn Hall Centennial Arena is governed by the Restriction Exemption Program.

The Town of Stony Plain has several sports fields which are used by sports teams, clubs and the general public.  Sports fields are now CLOSED for the season.

Dog Park

The Umbach Off-leash Dog Park is at 969 Boulder Boulevard in the North Business Park. Named for Stony Plain's first Sheriff and town legend, Israel Umbach, this fully fenced off-leash dog park features naturalized trails through fields and forest. The park is open all year and available to residents and visitors.

Dog Agility Course

The Umbach Off-leash Dog Agility Course the first of its kind in Western Canada! The fully fenced course was designed after the 2015 IFCS World Agility Championship course and features 21 obstacles for both beginner and advanced dogs and trainers.

The dog agility course is free to use.

Outdoor Pool

The Stony Plain Outdoor Pool is CLOSED for the season.

 

Located at 5210-55 Avenue, the Stony Plain Outdoor Pool has been making a splash in the community for more than 40 years. The Town of Stony Plain works collaboratively with the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre to operate the six-lane outdoor pool from mid-May to the end of August.

Outdoor Rinks

The Town of Stony Plain operates 7 outdoor ice surfaces seasonally (December to March, weather permitting). Weekday priority is given to School use and daily rink maintenance. Ice surfaces will be closed when unsafe for use. Please use ice surfaces at your own risk and observe rink signage and guidelines.

Maintenance
  • Please stay off surfaces during morning maintenance from 6 am - Noon daily. 
Closures
  • Outdoor rinks will be closed if the weather is below -20 degrees, in times of heavy snowfall or unseasonably warm temperatures
  • If you choose to use the rinks in these conditions, be aware the rinks will be unsupervised, lights remain off, and the change rooms will be closed
  • Rinks close at 6:00 p.m. on December 24 and 31st

The Rotary Wellness Park is located at 4210-44 Avenue where you can workout with various pieces of outdoor gym equipment all year long.

Rotary Park

The Rotary Park is located at 4815-44 Avenue. This beautiful, family-friendly oasis is conveniently located just off Parkland Highway in the heart of the Town of Stony Plain, and is home to the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Information Centre.

Outdoor Skating area

During the winter months, Rotary Park features a groomed public skating area festively lit for the season. Drop in during the day, or skate under the stars and twinkling lights.

Shikaoi Park

Shikaoi Park is a lovely Japanese garden located at 4905-51 Avenue.

The Park was built in honour of the friendship established between Shikaoi, Japan and the Town of Stony Plain, pledged as sister towns since August, 1985.

Skate Park

The Stony Plain Skate Park is on 4401 49 Avenue at the north end of Brown Street.

Safety
  • Users should wear proper protective equipment.
  • The skate park is not supervised; anyone using the facility does so at their own risk. 
  • Bicycles are not allowed at the Skate Park.
Spray Park

Stony Plain's Rotary Spray Park is located at 5210-55 Avenue next to the Stony Plain Outdoor Pool. 

 

The Spray Park is monitored for cleanliness and maintenance by the Pool Staff, but is not supervised. Drop-in use is free. Report any concerns to the Stony Plain Pool office: 780-963-2600 or the Town of Stony Plain: 780-963-2151.

Stony Plain Golf Course

The Stony Plain Golf Course is at 18 Fairway Drive. 

 

Trails
There are over 43 kilometers of trails in Stony Plain. The trail system links our community together, allowing residents and visitors to explore and get active using the trails for biking, walking, rollerblading, and jogging. Some parts of the trail system are wheelchair accessible.

Cross Country Ski Trails

The Stony Plain Golf Course has cross-country ski trails open during the winter. You can access the trails from Fairway Drive, just east of the golf course entrance and the Fairway Green gated community. The Golf Course parking lot is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On-street parking is available.

Willow Park Natural Area

Willow Park Natural Area is a natural urban reserve east of the Willow Park subdivision with over 150 meters of trails running through it. Discover native grasses, trees and shrubs in the area as well as many small birds and wildlife.

TransAlta Tri-Leisure Centre

 The Transalta Tri-Leisure Centre is at 221 Jennifer Heil Way in Spruce Grove. 

 

Whispering Waters Park

Whispering Waters Park is located at the intersection of Brown Street and 4505-50 Avenue (across from the Rotary Recycling Centre). Enjoy a stroll, bike ride, or group picnic in this private natural forested area within the centre of Town.
