The next municipal election for Mayor, Councillors, and school board trustees will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025.

Register to Vote

All voters must be on the Permanent Electors Register. To register to vote or to see if you are registered to vote, visit Voterlink.

Who can vote?

To be eligible to vote, you must be:

  • At least 18 years old
  • A Canada citizen
  • A resident of Alberta, and a resident of Stony Plain on election day
  • Listed on the Permanent Electors Register
Register to Vote

All municipalities are required to develop a Permanent Electors Register for the 2025 municipal election. The Permanent Electors Register is a comprehensive list of residents who are eligible to vote.

You do not need to own property to vote. Property ownership is not a determining factor to vote, all citizens who meet the eligibility requirements are eligible to vote.
Identification requirements

All voters must produce identification that shows their name and address of residence. Acceptable identification includes the following: 

  • one piece of identification issued by a Canadian government, whether federal, provincial or local, or an agency of that government, that contains a photograph of the person.

  • one piece of identification issued by a Canadian government, whether federal, provincial or local, or an
    agency of that government, that contains a photograph of the person, the person’s name and the address of the person’s residence.

  • one piece of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer under the Election Act that establishes the person’s name and current address.

  • The relevant Minister may, by order, establish other acceptable identification.

Stony Plain Community Centre - 5008 51 Avenue 

  • Wednesday, October 8  4:00 PM to 8:00 PM 
  • Friday, October 10  12:00 PM to 6:00 PM 
  • Tuesday, October 14  12:00 PM to 6:00 PM 

Heritage Park - 5100 41 Avenue 

  • Thursday, October 16  4:00 PM to 8:00 PM 
  • Saturday, October 18  10:00 AM to 4:00 PM 

When the voting stations are declared closed, any elector in the voting station who wishes to vote shall be permitted to do so, but no other person shall be allowed to enter the voting station.

Election day

Election Day is Monday, October 20 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM 

You may vote at the location that is most convenient.

The voting station will open at 9:00 AM and will remain open until 8:00 PM. When the voting station is declared closed at 8:00 PM, any elector in the voting station who wishes to vote shall be permitted to do so, but no other person shall be allowed to enter the voting station.

Special Ballots

A special ballot, also known as a mail-in ballot, allows voters who can't attend an advance vote or the voting station on election day to still cast their vote.
