Public Works After Hours Emergency Line
The east walkway on Main Street directly in front of Dara’s Luxury Décor and Coffee Bar will be temporarily closed on Friday, August 30. Pedestrians may still access all businesses to the north of Dara’s from 51 Avenue.
Alberta Transportation has advised they will be paving portions of the intersection at Provincial Highway 779 (48 Street) and Highway 628 (79 Avenue) beginning today resulting in single lane, alternating traffic during the day. Temporary lane closures will take place along Highway 628 to accommodate construction of curb and gutter and the new channelized right turn lane.
Stony Plain, alongside The Good Samaritan Society and local artist James Mackay, will be unveiling a new mural on September 12. th.
Construction is set to begin on the underground servicing for the new Stony Plain school site next week. Residents will notice an increase in traffic along 57.

The Town welcomed Barbara Shaffner, the great-granddaughter of Stony Plain’s iconic sherriff, Israel Umbach, on a tour of the Umbach family’s rich history and roots in the community on July 19. Barbara, a resident of Toledo, Ohio, made the 1,767 km trip to her great-grandfather’s hometown to experience the history, first-hand.
The Town of Stony Plain will host its annual Outdoor Movie event in Heritage Park on Thursday, August 15. This year’s showing will be of the Disney fantasy movie.
Two months in a row now, the Town of Stony Plain has seen an incredible amount of rain. According to Environment Canada, looking at the last 20 years, June 2019 saw 124. 9 mm, second only to 2011 when the Town saw 133. 1 mm.
The Town of Stony Plain’s 2018 Annual Report is now complete. Released annually, the report informs residents of major milestones, initiatives, and projects within Stony Plain, while providing clear and accurate financial reporting to the public.
The Town is looking for local individuals to participate in the Long Stay Volunteer Program in Shikaoi, Japan. For a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 80 days, the program is an excellent way to further deepen the sister town relationship and to experience an exciting culture first-hand.
