Stony Plain Awarded Northern and Regional Economic Development Grant
STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $300,000 Government of Alberta grant through the Northern and Regional Economic Development (NRED) program. Stony Plain received the program’s maximum grant amount towards the Roadmap to Readiness Project: Unlocking Growth and Investment in Stony Plain.
“By investing in economic development, we are ensuring Alberta remains a place where communities, organizations and businesses from every corner of the province can thrive. Projects like Stony Plain’s highway corridor lay the foundation for sustainable and long-term economic growth and diversification, facilitating more investment opportunities and jobs for hardworking Alberta families.” Joseph Schow, Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration
These grant funds will be allocated toward developing the critical planning documents—including an Area Structure Plan, Intersection Design Plan and a Marketing and Communications Plan—needed for the strategic development of land along Highway 16A corridor.
"I am pleased that Alberta's government recognizes the important role our region, especially Stony Plain, has in supporting the continued economic growth in our province. By securing our economic future, we will continue to attract investment to create jobs and continue to prove that Alberta is the best place to live, work and raise a family." Searle Turton, MLA for Spruce Grove-Stony Plain
The focus of this future development will be on attracting investment to develop commercial and light-to-medium industrial lands within the North Business Park. “The Town of Stony Plain is encouraged by the interest shown in the North Industrial Lands,” says Mayor William Choy. “This potential development supports our vision for strategic growth and increased investment, helping meet the ongoing demand for commercial and industrial space and creating new expansion opportunities for local businesses and the Edmonton Metropolitan Region to drive long-term economic growth.”
The goal of this strategic development is to foster an environment of sustainability and growth for local enterprises in several sectors, including manufacturing, agribusiness, logistics, retail, dining and arts. “With a mandate to manage and promote the Town’s commercial highway corridor, we are committed to supporting investors through a streamlined and collaborative approach,” says Tom Goulden, Chief Administrative Officer. “By helping navigate administrative processes, we aim to reduce barriers, improve development and emphasize that Stony Plain is open for business and ready to support meaningful investment and expansion.”
