Uniquely Stony Plain Blog

Welcome to the Uniquely Stony Plain Blog!

This blog will be continuously updated throughout the course of the Uniquely Stony Plain MDP update project. It will tell the story of where we have been, where we are going, and all the things we learned along the way. We're looking forward to going on this journey with members of the Stony Plain community!

Residents Share 1,500 Comments to Help Shape Uniquely Stony Plain

July 31, 2026

As summer continues to bring neighbours and community members together, the Uniquely Stony Plain team has been out and about across the town throwing community parties. Over the last month we’ve visited the École La Trinité Playground, Meridian Meadows, Graybriar Playground, and the St. John Paul II Park. Each brought uniqueness and flair to the project.

We have been exceedingly impressed by the amount of care, passion and pride community members have for Stony Plain. Having received over 1,500 comments, we have started to review them to create a vision that is reflective and reminiscent of your ideas. This is an incredibly important and exciting step of the Uniquely Stony Plain project as it provides great insight, knowledge and context to our project.

Community responses to What do you love about Stony Plain and What are your hopes and dreams for Stony Plain are recorded verbatim and exported into data so they can be reviewed and organized. The team is now tagging each comment, which means assigning it a unique label before grouping it into a broader category. This careful approach helps ensure residents’ ideas are understood, respected, and reflected in the next steps of the project. We will be sharing the results in the coming months as the initial engagement wraps up this August.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to share, or if you just enjoy connecting with community, join us at our final three community parties:

·         August 4 | 5 to 7 PM | Ecole Meridian Heights School South of 44 Ave.

·         August 13 | 5 to 7 PM | High Park School

·         August 18 | 5 to 7 PM | Fairway Dr Playground

We hope to see you there and appreciate your dedication to this important project!

Sincerely,

- Uniquely Stony Plain Project Team

The Beginning of a Community Vision

July 7, 2026

Summer is in full swing; the Uniquely Stony Plain team has continued to pop up in neighbourhoods throughout the community serving free food, games, and plenty of opportunity to share ideas about the future of Stony Plain.

On June 25, we hosted our largest turnout yet at Westerra Park and Playground! We served nearly 200 meals and collected more than 300 responses to our engagement questions in a single evening. Community members really came together to connect with each other, enjoy the sunshine and share what makes the town unique.

The momentum didn’t stop there, at the Forest Green School community party we continued the conversation, gathered thoughtful feedback and enjoyed a warm summer evening.

Now that we are about halfway through summer engagement, a picture of the community vision is starting to emerge. Community members love the character and small-town atmosphere, pathways and connections, local businesses, downtown, recreation opportunities, their fellow community members, and so much more! As a team we are excited to dive further into these ideas and explore how they can form our future community plan.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to participate yet, there is still lots of summer engagement left! Keep an eye on your mailbox for the arrival of the Uniquely Stony Plain postcard. The postcard offers an easy way to share your thoughts whenever it is convenient for you.

You can also join us at one of our upcoming community parties:

·         July 9 | 5 to 7 PM | École La Trinité Playground

·         July 14 | 5 to 7 PM | Meridian Meadows

·         July 23 | 5 to 7 PM | Graybriar Playground

At our parties you can expect free food, games, and great conversations.

Can’t wait to see you there!

Uniquely Stony Plain Summer Engagements Start Off Strong!

June 24, 2026

The Uniquely Stony Plain Team has been popping up around the community as we kick off collecting feedback on what people love about Stony Plain and what their hopes and dreams are for the future of Stony Plain.

We popped up and enjoyed pancakes with residents at the Farmers’ Day Mayor and Council Pancake Breakfast, took on some rainy weather at the Brookview Playground and Park Space community party, and joined in on the festivities downtown at Midsummer Thursdays! So far, we’ve had a great start receiving a total of 319 responses from recent engagement opportunities. The initial feedback shows Stony Plain residents love the small-town vibes and community connectivity and hope it stays this way in the future. We hope to share more of the results next time we write.

Thank you to everyone who has come out to share your thoughts us so far. Join us at our upcoming community parties this week on June 25 at the Westerra Park and Playground from 5 to 7 PM and next week on June 30 at Forest Green School from 5 to 7 PM where we will be hosting our next community parties.

Project Kickoff

June 6, 2026

The Uniquely Stony Plain project team is excited to be officially kicking off our first stage of community engagement by popping up at the Mayor and Council's Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, June 6!

This pop up style engagement will serve as the soft-launch for all of our summer 2026 events, and gives us a chance to spread the word about our plans for the summer. This will include the release of our community party schedule, which will be the best way for residents to come out and get involved in the Uniquely Stony Plain MDP update project.

We're looking forward to a sunny morning filled with fresh pancakes and great conversation!
