Construction

Starting on September 28, 2026, contractors will be installing new underground water and sanitary services on 50 Avenue at48 Street. This work will connect the new development at 4802 50 Ave to the Town’s existing mains. 

50 Ave and 48 Street intersection will be closed for one week or until further notice. During this time, vehicles will not be able to turn on or off 50 Ave at that intersection. Traffic will continue to flow on 48 street, and local traffic, customers and deliveries will be able to access 50 Ave from the west. 

Please follow posted detour signs to navigate the area efficiently and keep vehicles clear from the barricaded area.

Construction schedules can be subject to shift due to weather or site conditions.  

The Town is working to improve the flow of traffic from 43 Avenue onto South Park Drive. This construction project will change the traffic pattern by removing the option for left turns from 43 Avenue onto South Park Drive.

The project will include the construction of a median on 43 Avenue, directing traffic flow to turn right at the intersection.

High-Speed Fibre Optic Infrastructure

Ledcor and Fibre Connect is installing high-speed fibre optic infrastructure in areas throughout Stony Plain to expand access to reliable internet and telecommunications services for residents and businesses. 

While this is a Ledcor and Fibre Connect led project, the Town is supporting the work through municipal approvals and coordination. 

Construction may occur in residential and industrial areas throughout the community and may result in temporary disruptions for nearby residents and businesses. Restoration activities may also be underway following or during construction to minimize disruption. 

Locate flags will be placed in required areas prior to construction.

The Town of Stony Plain has constructed a new non-denominational municipal cemetery on Rosenthal Road (Range Road 12).

Owned and operated by the Town, the cemetery will serve residents and surrounding communities by providing local burial and cremation options in a respectful and accessible setting.

The project will create space for a range of interment services and support families wishing to honour and remember their loved ones close to home.  

The Town of Stony Plain has initiated the planning of a Community Recreation Facility to serve the indoor recreation needs of the region.

The development of a recreation facility was identified as a strategic priority for Council in 2018 and is included as a key strategic priority in the 2026-2029 Strategic Plan.

Construction of the facility began in Q3 of 2024, and the facility is expected to open in late 2026.

The Meridian Heights Reservoir project is a key initiative identified within the 2026-2028 Corporate Plan to address critical infrastructure repairs to maintain operations. 

This reservoir plays an important role for the Town of Stony Plain in delivering reliable water service to residents and businesses. 

As part of this project, the Meridian Heights sport courts, including tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, have been removed to accommodate required infrastructure improvements.  

The Town is undertaking drainage improvement work to enhance stormwater management in key areas. Work is being completed in the following locations:

• The Brickyard: along the north side of 50 Avenue (west of 52 Street)
•  Willow Park

The Town of Stony Plain has received information from CN Rail regarding upcoming rehabilitation of the Veterans Boulevard Rail Crossing. Veterans Boulevard will be closed from 44 Ave to Fairway Drive with local traffic access to Graybriar Drive. The northbound and southbound lanes are expected to be closed from 7 AM on September 8 to September 10, with a planned reopening on September 11. 

During this time, be sure to follow detour signs for the most efficient route. 

The Town is working to improve conditions and longevity of Town-owned roads through restoration, preservation and rehabilitation.

The 43 Street Road Reconstruction Project will improve underground infrastructure and road conditions along 43 Street.  

The project supports the long-term reliability of municipal infrastructure while maintaining an important transportation route within the community. Residents, businesses and motorists travelling through the area may be affected during construction.

New outdoor courts have been constructed in the green space south of the Stony Plain Outdoor Pool, including pickleball, basketball and tennis courts.

These courts have been developed to replace those removed as part of the Meridian Heights Reservoir project.
