Environmental Stewardship

The Town has several plans and strategies that provide guidance on our commitment towards environmental stewardship with the goal of ensuring that the environment will be taken care of for generations.

The Environmental Master Plan (EMP) provides a vision and policies for Stony Plain to become a leader in environmental stewardship and guides actions to prioritize the health of our environment for the benefit of current and future generations.

The Environmental Stewardship Strategy (ESS) (2021) establishes an environmental action plan containing initiatives for the Town to undertake to achieve the vision and goals of the EMP. The 2021 ESS was created using the foundation of previous ESS documents (2007 and 2011 update), and provides a framework to track and report on environmental progress and implementation of proposed initiatives.

Environmental Portfolio

With the EMP and renewed ESS in place, monitoring and reporting on environmental initiatives is essential to track progress towards environmental goals. There an annual update to the Environmental Portfolio that includes the status of current initiatives and goals, as well as new initiatives that were added to the portfolio, or existing initiatives that moved up or down in priority or were removed from the portfolio based on work done over the year or due to changes in context and decisions by partners.
