Residents are encourage to document their bin numbers, or write their house number on their bins. Empty bins can be blown away during strong winds, ensure your bins are secured in a safe location. Replacement for a lost or stolen waste or organics cart is $105.

• Place your cart out on the curb before 7 am on your collection day.
• Report missed collections before noon the day following your scheduled collection day.
• Waste is collected every 2 weeks.
• Organics is collected every 2 weeks from November to April, and Weekly from May to October.
• Recycling is collected weekly all year.
• Print out a collection calendar  

• Ensure 1m (4 ft) clearance all around and above the cart (including between carts, bags, and parked cars).
• Cart should be placed clear of any overhead obstructions, such as trees, powerlines, or roof overhangs.

• Please bag materials in the waste cart.
• Ensure your cart is facing the street.
• Carts must not be over-packed. Tightly packed carts, especially organic carts, do not empty properly when jammed full and can result in damage to carts and/or property, and excessive litter/loose debris.
• Ensure the recycling is not leaning against your carts.
• All cart lids must close completely. 

The Town of Stony Plain contracts 2 service providers to manage the collection of Residential Waste, Organics and Recycling. 

• Waste and Organics bins are collected by Integrity Waste Solutions.
• Recycling is collected by GFL Environmental

• Do not delay in reporting a missed pickup, it should be reported the morning after the scheduled pickup date to ensure the contractor can return the following day.

Light bulbs, Electronics and Paints are secured when the facility is unattended. It is recommended to not leave personal electronics outside of the secured containers when the Recycle Centre is unattended.   

Tire Recycling Pilot Program has been suspended.

It is with regret, we inform you the Tire Recycling Pilot Program is being suspended.  If you have tires that need to be recycled, they may be taken to the Parkland Transfer Station on RR 11. We hope to return this program to the community shortly.

The Eco Centre is a drop-off facility where residents can dispose of items that can’t be placed in their black waste cart, blue recycling bag or green organics cart. Household hazardous waste, electronics, appliances and extra garbage are also accepted at the Eco Centre.

No, the Town of Stony Plain is committed to environmental responsibility by protecting and managing our environmental impact to meet current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. It has been proven that bi-weekly waste collection helps promote the use of organic waste services and recycling due to limited waste capacity. 

Public Works staff can complete repairs to your bins, such as replace broken wheels and broken vents. When they come to do the repair, if it cannot be repaired, they will replace your bin. To request a new bin email publicworks@stonyplain.com with your name, address, phone number, the problem with your bin, and the number on the front of your bin. We will create a work order for the team to come repair or replace your organics bin.

EPR is a provincial program that shifts financial responsibility for recycling programs to paper and packaging producers. This means that municipalities and taxpayers no longer pay for recycling. The Town of Stony Plain has joined the program as an Opt-In community, meaning that recycling continues to be collected by GFL Environmental, our collection partner.

Spring cleaning? Just in time for the annual Treasure Hunt and Large Item Drop Off! Treasure Hunt returns in May 2027.

Please note only items at the curbside of residences are considered a part of the Treasure Hunt. Residents are encouraged to donate any leftover usable items to local organizations for repurposing. 

Large items that weren’t claimed during the Treasure Hunt can be taken to the Public Works yard at 4505-50 Ave for free disposal during the Large Item Drop Off event in May 2027. 

This event is only available to residents of Stony Plain, you must bring proof of being a resident of Stony Plain.

DON'T JUST TRASH IT, SHRED IT!

Shred & Go is happening on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 9 AM – 1 PM at the Rotary Recycling Centre (4505 50 Avenue). Rip N Shred Inc. provides an environmentally safe and secure disposal for all sensitive information. Their trucks contain cutting-edge proprietary paper shredding technology made for the disposal of sensitive information. 

This event is available to Stony Plain residents ONLY. Proof of residency (identification with a Stony Plain address) will be required on-site.  

• Advance drop-offs will NOT be accepted. Please arrive within the 9 AM to 1 PM timeframe.
• There is a maximum of 10 banker’s boxes of material per vehicle – residents CANNOT leave the event and return with additional boxes.
• No businesses please.
• This event highlights the Town’s commitment to environmental sustainability and overall resident safety by encouraging people to dispose of personal documents properly and safely.
• There are several documents that should be shredded. These include any:
• Financial documents, including bank statements and receipts
• Legal documents
• Any documents containing your personal information
• Including your date of birth, Social Security number, full name and address, phone numbers, driver’s license number, and signature.

Some lids should be removed before you put them in your blue bag. Starting Oct. 1, Paper laminate containers, like ice cream containers and to-go coffee cups should have lids removed. Glass containers, like jars, cosmetic containers, and oil and vinegar bottles should also have their caps off before being recycled. However, recyclables like cartons, aerosol containers and plastic jugs (laundry detergent, cleaner, shampoo, condiments, etc.) can be recycled with their lids and caps left on. • Tin cans, aluminum cans, pie plates and containers can all be washed using sink water from washing dishes.  This will ensure no additional water is used
• To ensure acceptable items reach end markets and are, in fact, turned in to new products, it is important to ensure that they are clean. This means that materials should be free of food chunks, liquid materials, or wiped clean from grease and dirt

Starting October 1, 2026, most single-use plastic materials will be accepted in your blue bag. Plastics intended for long-term use, such as reusable water bottles, Tupperware, and hard cases are not accepted. Any plastics used to hold hazardous or restricted materials are not accepted. • The three R’s of recycling — reduce, reuse and recycle — are listed in order of priority
• Before you recycle, try to reduce and reuse first

In some areas of town, where space allows, waste is collected in the back alley. During the spring thaw road bans are in place to protect the roads from damage. During April and May, waste collection is moved from the back alley to the front curb collection in these areas. Watch for signs and reminders in the spring.

On July 10, 2023, Administration presented survey results to Council following completion of the Waste Cart Location Pilot that begin in November 2022 and concluded at the beginning of 2023. The Town neighbourhoods of Meridian Heights, St. Andrews, and West of 48th Street & South of the CN Railroad tracks have historically had their waste collected on their front roadway during the road ban months of April to the start of June.  The Town conducted a pilot project that started the road ban in November instead of April. The presentation focused on feedback received from residents and the results of a survey conducted during the pilot, including:

• 812 door knockers distributed
• 211 surveys completed (26%)
• Rear back alley pick-up year-round was the option of choice for 46% of respondents

Administration has made the decision to revert waste collection back to the status quo of rear alley road bans from April to June when pick up will occur in the front street during that period and will revert to the rear alley for the remainder of the year.
