2025 Municipal Election: Unofficial Results Announced
STONY PLAIN, AB: The ballots have been counted, and the unofficial results are in for the 2025 Municipal Election. Residents have elected six Councillors to serve on Town Council for the next four years. Mayor William Choy has been acclaimed.
The following six candidates received the highest number of votes and will form the 2025–2029 Town Council:
• Eric Meyer – 1,361
• Justin Anderson – 1,343
• Justin Laurie – 1,298
• Miranda Niebergall – 1,254
• Harold Pawlechko – 982
• Melanie Loyns – 969
A total of 2,796 ballots were cast out of 14,239 eligible electors, representing a 19.6% voter turnout, compared to 22.3% in 2021.
“This year’s election was made possible through the hard work and dedication of staff, volunteers, and community members,” says Returning Officer Teresa Olsen. “We’re grateful to everyone who participated, from residents who cast their ballots to the workers who ensured the process remained fair, transparent, and compliant with new provincial legislation.”
The 2025 election saw close competition among all fifteen Councillor candidates. In addition to the six elected members, the remaining candidates received the following vote totals:

• Angel Tuttle – 843
• Randal Altheim – 805
• Russ Graff – 727
• Martin Sommer – 537
• Chris Blasko – 421
• Kyle Sherritt – 413
This year’s election marks the culmination of over a year of preparation across four phases:
• Phase One (Winter 2024–Spring 2025): Launched nomination period awareness and early candidate information.
• Phase Two (Spring–Summer 2025): Recruited election workers, promoted accessibility options, and opened Special Ballot applications.
• Phase Three (Fall 2025): Focused on voter registration, identification requirements, and Advance Voting opportunities.
• Phase Four (October 2025): Delivered Election Day coverage, live results, and real-time updates through social media and the Election webpage.
Each phase was designed to provide residents with clear, consistent information and to ensure transparency at every step of the electoral process.
All results remain unofficial until Friday, October 24, 2025, at 12 PM, when official results will be declared by the Returning Officer.
