Alexis Marie Chute Named 2024 Award of Creative Excellence Recipient
STONY PLAIN, AB: Alexis Marie Chute was awarded the Town of Stony Plain’s Award of Creative Excellence last evening at the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce Business Awards of Distinction. This prestigious award celebrates individuals, organizations, non-profits, and businesses that significantly contribute to social and cultural cohesion, community identity, creative economic sustainability, and local tourism.
Each year, nominations for the Award of Creative Excellence are open to the community, and the selection process is carried out by the Cultural Roundtable. This year’s nominees included DRC Music, Parkland Potters’ Guild, Skydancer Indigenous Cultural Society and winner Alexis Marie Chute.
Alexis Marie Chute is an award-winning artist, bestselling author, photographer, filmmaker, art curator, public speaker, and is renowned for her innovative and boundary-pushing work. Her book, Memorable Murals: The Visual History of the Town of Stony Plain, Alberta, published in 2023, captures the heart and history of Stony Plain's celebrated mural program. Her book tells the story of the mural program, the artists’ inspirations, struggles, and triumphs, and provides insight into the power of public art and the fascinating world of murals. Memorable Murals is a celebration of Stony Plain’s culture, art, and the undeniable power of community, reminding us that some stories are best told on a grand scale.
