ATCO Community Energy Fund Grant Supports New EV Charging Stations in Stony Plain

STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain has expanded its commitment to sustainable transportation with the installation of two new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, made possible through the 2024 ATCO Community Energy Fund Grant. The new chargers improve public access to EV infrastructure and support the Town’s long-term environmental and sustainability goals.

“The installation of the new EV chargers is another step toward supporting cleaner transportation options and long-term environmental health,” says Mayor William Choy. “We are grateful for the ATCO Community Energy Fund Grant’s support in advancing and strengthening the Town’s commitment to sustainability.”

The ATCO Community Energy Grant supports the Town with Environmental Stewardship in  pursuing the Town’s priorities of sustainability and reduced carbon emissions, also defined in the most recent, 2025,  Environmental Portfolio Annual Update.

The first EV charger can be found on the West side of Town Hall: 4905 51 Ave. It is available to the public at all hours and is free to use, with no associated charging costs. The second charger, located at the Town’s Public Works Building, is designated for use by the Town’s electric vehicle fleet and reflects the municipality’s ongoing commitment to sustainable transportation.

“The ATCO Community Energy Grant has allowed the Town to make meaningful progress on its environmental initiatives,” says Evan Joyes, Sustainability Planner. “The addition of these EV chargers improves convenience for electric vehicle users and extends the charging network for residents and visitors traveling through Stony Plain.”
