Building Capacity of Local Non-Profits and Charities

STONY PLAIN, SPRUCE GROVE, and PARKLAND COUNTY, AB: The Tri-Municipal Region Community Development Planning Committee is working collaboratively to support the success of local non-profit organizations and charities. ‘Don’t Just Survive, Thrive’ will be a one-day conference on November 2 at Supreme Steel in Acheson featuring sessions on building sustainability, volunteer management, leadership and organizational capacity. The conference will provide a platform to share resources and successes, enhance collaboration and discuss challenges.

“Non-profits in the Tri-Municipal Region fill critical needs in our communities,” says Town of Stony Plain Mayor William Choy. “From food provision and basic needs, to senior supports, sports and recreation, arts and culture, entrepreneurship and more, non-profits and charities have worked together to provide vital programs and services for everyday citizens in our communities.”

The conference takes place at at Supreme Steel in Acheson and will provide a platform to share resources and successes, enhance collaboration and discuss challenges.

“Non-profits and charities in the Tri-Municipal Region touch many lives every day, providing critical supports and contributions that keep our communities vital and vibrant,” says Spruce Grove Mayor Jeff Acker. “This conference will expose community groups to opportunities that enhance the effectiveness of their organization!”

"Non-profits and charities are deeply connected with the communities they support, and we know they continuously work to identify and address regional needs," says Parkland County Mayor Allan Gamble. "These vital organizations anchor our communities, serve a variety of purposes and deliver important services to our residents."

Last fall, the Tri-Municipal Region Development Planning Committee hosted a Funders Forum for non-profit and charitable organizations. This brought an increased awareness to the needs of these organizations and provided the direction to offer a one-day conference this year. The conference will focus on networking, education and leveraging collective knowledge and resources to create effective and sustainable solutions to the challenges. Investing in innovation and professional development is essential for organizations to adapt to changing environments, meet emerging needs and drive positive change. 

‘Don’t Just Survive, Thrive’ will take place November 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration opens June 24. The cost to attend is $25.00 with only 100 tickets being sold. Registration will close September 27.
