Construction is Underway on the New Community Recreation Facility

STONY PLAIN, AB: Construction of the Community Recreation Facility in Stony Plain is well underway. The building’s structure is taking shape, with structural steel and concrete block work underway. Most recently the structural steel for the buildings entrance has been installed, and the parking lot has been prepped for paving in the Spring of 2026. Installation of pre-engineered building is anticipated to begin later this year, with exterior walls expected to be completed by early 2026. Interior work will continue over the winter months, including mechanical, plumbing, and electrical.

“It has been an exciting construction season watching the Community Recreation Facility take shape,” says Mayor William Choy. “Once complete, this facility will serve our residents and future generations for years to come.”

“The physical form of the facility is very much taking shape now”, says General Manager of Community and Protective Services Karl Hill. “The structure on-site is beginning to resemble the renderings, and residents can now begin to see the scale and vision of the space. Over the coming months, the site will continue to evolve as we move toward the planned opening in late 2026.”

Once complete, the facility will include community gathering spaces, a walking and running track, a turf field, two multi-purpose sport courts, pickleball courts, a six-sheet curling facility, and a concession. The design also allows for future phased recreation and leisure additions.
