Construction Progress Advancing at Stony Plain’s Municipal Cemetery
STONY PLAIN, AB: Construction continues to progress at Stony Plain’s non-denominational municipal cemetery, with several key features now installed across the site.
Paving throughout the cemetery is complete, and landscaping work, including tree planting, has been carried out where weather conditions allowed. The columbarium has been installed, along with cemetery signage, foundations for monuments, and fencing and gate, further defining the space and its layout.
While the monuments are in place, final masonry finish work will be completed in the spring once weather conditions permit. Additional landscaping will also continue as seasonal conditions improve, with work expected to be completed ahead of the cemetery’s opening later in 2026.
“The municipal cemetery is an important long-term investment in our community,” says Mayor William Choy. “Seeing these key elements come together reflects years of thoughtful planning to ensure this space will serve residents with dignity and care for generations to come.”
“A significant amount of work has been completed across the site,” says Khalid Aziz, Manager of Engineering. “While some finishing elements will be completed when weather conditions allow, the project continues to move forward as planned.”
