Council Begins Work on Strategic Plan for Stony Plain

STONY PLAIN, AB: The annual Strategic Planning Session has come to a close, providing Council and Senior Administration with a valuable opportunity to review progress, evaluate factors of influence, and identify goals and priorities for the community's future direction. This annual session is crucial to ensure the Town’s continued alignment with its vision and strategic priorities.
“This Strategic Planning Session marked an important milestone for Council as we begin a new term together,” says Mayor William Choy. “It was encouraging to see Council’s shared focus and commitment to setting clear priorities that will guide our work and decision-making in the years ahead.”
While recognizing emerging opportunities and challenges, Council reflected on the value of clarifying strategic priorities. Discussions centered on the following key themes:

  • Hearing directly from residents to better understand what matters most to the community
  • Enhancing public safety and connection to support a healthy and welcoming community
  • Strengthening valued services and investing in essential infrastructure to support long-term community well-being

“Our annual Strategic Planning Session plays an important role in aligning Council and Senior Administration, especially as we begin a new term,” says Chief Administrative Officer Tom Goulden. “This session provides an opportunity to consider emerging factors, establish shared priorities, and ensure the organization is well positioned to respond to resident feedback, enhance public safety, and deliver the services and infrastructure our community depends on.”
As the first Strategic Planning Session of this new term of Council, the outcomes reflect a shared commitment to establishing clear priorities and setting a strong foundation for the next four years. These discussions will inform the Strategic Plan update, which is scheduled to be presented for approval at the March 23 Regular Meeting of Council.
