Councils Presented with the Tri-Municipal Regional Plan Report

The Councils of Parkland County, the City of Spruce Grove and the Town of Stony Plain heard presentations this week announcing the Tri-Municipal Regional Plan (TMRP) report. This report is an important milestone that represents the culmination of two years of collaborative work amongst all three municipalities, which began in January 2019 with the signing of a joint letter of intent to develop the TMRP together.  This initiative also signifies the strong history of partnership and continued collaborative service delivery amongst the Tri-Municipal Region municipalities.

“I want to recognize all of the hard work of staff from each of our three municipalities in helping us to arrive at this important milestone for the Tri-Municipal Region. There has been tremendous dedication from everyone involved, and this initiative has highlighted another valuable example of cross-region collaboration through our collective efforts,” said Mayor Rod Shaigec, Parkland County.

Through this initiative, all three municipalities sought to foster a vibrant, growing, diverse and inclusive Tri-Municipal Region. The TMRP aimed to improve governance, service delivery, fiscal capacity and economic prosperity for the benefit of the region’s citizens. It involved determining where alignment of programs and services could be advanced to support community progress, as well as looked at opportunities to enhance the value and benefit of municipal programs and services to all of the region’s citizens.

“This TMRP report is an opportunity for everyone in the Tri-Municipal Region to continue building relationships and understanding each other’s perspectives. At this point, I believe it’s important for us to reflect on the report’s recommendations to determine how they fit within each municipality’s strategic priorities so we can be thoughtful and purposeful in its implementation,” said Mayor Stuart Houston, City of Spruce Grove.

The TMRP will enable each municipal partner to strategically align planning for growth and service delivery to achieve mutual benefit for citizens, as well as to individually and collectively achieve heightened local, regional and global competitiveness. It will also provide short-, medium- and long-term recommendations that may be implemented over the next 40 years.

“It’s important for us to recognize that there may be elements of the TMRP that each of our municipalities may need to consider and discuss further when it comes to implementation. However, we are committed to upholding our shared mutual respect and the principle of collaboration as we work together to determine next steps as we go forward," said Mayor William Choy, Town of Stony Plain.
