Cultural Campfires Return to Stony Plain, Igniting Cultural Connections
STONY PLAIN, AB: Prepare to gather around the campfire once again – Cultural Campfires are set to ignite the summer nights in Stony Plain! This beloved free storytelling series will take place at Shikaoi Park on Thursday evenings throughout July and August from 7-8 PM, offering a diverse range of captivating tales that celebrate cultures from around the world.
Cultural Campfires, a cherished annual event, is proudly co-hosted by the Town of Stony Plain and our local community of storytellers. Each week, attendees will be transported on a captivating journey, as they immerse themselves in stories from different cultures, fostering community connections and promoting cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.
“Storytelling has the power to bridge cultural gaps and ignite empathy,” says Stony Plain Mayor William Choy. “Throughout the years, we’ve witnessed meaningful conversations sparked by these campfires, and I wholeheartedly encourage residents to come out listen, and learn from our talented local storytellers!”
“The campfires are more than just a form of entertainment; they serve as a catalyst for building understanding, acceptance, and compassion within our community,” says Community Development Officer Deanna Butz. “Each campfire provides a welcoming space for individuals to connect with one another, meet new people, and embark on a cultural journey through the art of storytelling.”
The summer of storytelling will kick off on Thursday, July 6 at 7 PM with the mesmerizing Chinese Lion Dance, setting the stage for an unforgettable series of Cultural Campfires. Admission is free, and all community members are invited to attend. Given the limited seating at Shikaoi Park, we recommend bringing your own chairs for maximum comfort.
