Dementia Connections Aims to Support Residents Across the Tri-Region
The Dementia Connections Project is returning for another year of supporting residents in Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and Parkland County. The program provides support and community-based programming to people living with dementia and their care partners.
The Dementia Connections Project aims to foster connections and build a safer, more dementia-friendly community for all residents in the Tri-Municipal Region. Volunteer Dementia Connectors support people living with dementia by offering individual support and helping to facilitate inclusion in the community. The program helps to address issues people living with dementia may face including ageism and isolation.
“At the heart of the program is the mission to create supportive and accepting communities where people living with dementia feel safe and welcome,” says Community Development Officer Deanna Butz. “The program builds on Stony Plain’s Together We Shine Inclusion initiative which is aimed at making Stony Plain a more inclusive, caring, and responsive community. By working alongside community and regional partners, the program has and continues to make a significant difference in the lives of people living with dementia.”
“Improving inclusivity in Stony Plain works to create a stronger, more resilient community where everyone feels supported. The Dementia Connections Project plays a key role in connecting community members with local supports and social opportunities, increasing their quality of life while also raising awareness of the barriers people living with dementia may face,” says Mayor William Choy.
The Dementia Connections Project is a collaborative program with Stony Plain, Primary Care Network, and Westview Health Services and is funded through the Community Innovations for Dementia Care grant.
