Dementia Connections Continues to Support Residents Across the Tri-Region

STONY PLAIN, AB: The Dementia Connections Project is returning for another year of supporting residents in Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and Parkland County. The program provides support and community-based programming to people living with dementia and their care partners.

The Dementia Connections Project aims to foster connections and build a safer, more dementia-friendly community for all residents in the Tri-Municipal Region. The project helps to address issues people living with dementia may face including ageism and isolation.

“The Dementia Connections Project builds on Stony Plain’s Together We Shine Inclusion initiative which focuses on making Stony Plain a more inclusive, caring, and responsive community. This program’s mission is to create supportive and accepting communities where people living with dementia feel safe and welcome,” says Community Development Officer Deanna Butz. “By working alongside community and regional partners, the program has and continues to make a significant difference in the lives of people living with dementia.”

“Fostering a sense of community, belonging, and inclusion is a key commitment for Stony Plain. The Dementia Connections Project helps us to achieve this by connecting community members with local supports and social opportunities.” says Mayor William Choy. “This helps people living with dementia by improving their quality of life while also raising awareness of the barriers they may face, and creates a community where everyone feels supported.”

The Dementia Connections Project continues to connect, support, and share while creating and maintaining an inclusive and welcoming community. Creative learning and social opportunities available include Creating Connections Through Art, Living the Dementia Journey, Care Partner Support Group, Lets Talk Dementia, and access to the Community Connector. Residents are also encouraged to join the WestView Dementia Collaborative which is a community-based network of members who meets on a regular basis.
