Enkindling Cultural Connections, Cultural Campfires in Stony Plain
STONY PLAIN, AB: Come and gather round the campfire – Cultural Campfires are back and ready to bring a warm glow to summer nights here in Stony Plain! This magical story telling series will take place at Shikaoi Park on Thursday evenings throughout July and August from 7 to 8 PM. Pull up a chair and get captivated by a range of incredible stories that celebrate cultures from around the world.
The Town of Stony Plain and our local community of story tellers are proud to host this beloved annual event. Join us every week as attendees are taken on an incredible journey, fully immersing themselves in stories from around the world, getting the opportunity to promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation through community connection.
“Storytelling has such a unique ability to bring people together,” says Mayor William Choy. “Throughout the years, these campfires have brought forth some amazing cross-cultural connections and discussion, and I highly encourage the community to participate, listen, and learn from our gifted local storytellers!”
“The campfires are an amazing opportunity to come and listen to some amazing storytelling. Each campfire provides a space where individuals are encouraged to connect with each other, meet new people and share their own stories,” says Community Development Officer Deanna Butz. “This event opens up avenues for our community to build understanding, acceptance and compassion together.”
The summer of storytelling will kick off on Thursday, July 4 at 7 PM with our storyteller Inuksuk Mackay and an interesting tale of Inuit Heritage. Admission is free, and all community members are invited to attend. Given the limited seating at Shikaoi Park, we recommend bringing your own chairs for maximum comfort.
