Façade and Placemaking Grants Return to Support Improvements in Old Town South

STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain is once again inviting applications from local businesses, residents, community groups and organizations for the 2026 Façade Improvement and Placemaking Grant Programs. Building on last year’s momentum, the programs continue to support revitalization efforts connected to the Old Town South Redevelopment project.

The Façade Improvement Program provides grant funding to business and property owners for exterior building upgrades and storefront improvements. Enhancements such as updated façades, signage, accessibility features and aesthetic improvements contribute to more welcoming streetscapes and help attract visitors, customers and new investment to Stony Plain.

The Placemaking Grant Program supports community-led initiatives that create vibrant, engaging public spaces where people can gather, connect and spend time. Projects may include public art, seating areas, small-scale beautification efforts or other creative enhancements that strengthen neighbourhood identity and community pride.

“Investing in attractive, functional spaces helps create a strong sense of place,” says Manager of Planning Miles Dibble. “These programs empower local businesses and community groups to play an active role in shaping Stony Plain’s future while supporting economic activity and tourism.”

Mayor William Choy adds, “Stony Plain continues to grow while maintaining the character and charm that make our community special. Programs like these encourage residents and business owners to contribute to that vision in meaningful and lasting ways.”

Funding is available at multiple levels to accommodate a range of project sizes and scopes. Applications are open until March 31, 2026. Visit Grants to learn more about eligibility requirements and to apply.
