Find Your Fit: Stony Plain rolling out new residential waste cart options

Please note, there is no administrative fee to downsize your cart from 240L to 120L.

STONY PLAIN, AB: Beginning September 2, Stony Plain residents can customize their waste cart to match their household size, waste habits and convenience preferences.

Following amendments to the Town’s Solid Waste Management and Fees and Charges bylaws, residents will be able to choose from three waste cart options:

• Downsize to a 120L cart
• Keep their current 240L waste cart
• Increase capacity by adding a second cart for a combined 360L of capacity

“We have been listening to the community and know every household has different needs,” says Mayor William Choy. “These new options were designed to let people choose what works best for them.”

The initiative shifts from a one-size-fits-all approach to a customizable program to fit every household. Smaller carts offer a practical solution for those producing less waste, while the dual-cart option supports larger families or homes with higher waste output.

“Downsizing not only helps reduce landfill waste,” added Paul Simons, Manager of Infrastructure Operations, “but it also frees up valuable storage space for residents.”

Residents looking to change their waste cart capacity can submit a request online or by phone on or after September 2. Fees will apply as follows:

No action is required for those looking to keep their current cart, and waste collection schedules will not be affected by any cart changes.
