Glimpse into Stony Plain’s Past with the Time Capsule Exhibit
Travel through time and explore Stony Plain’s history! The Stony Plain time capsule display is now available for public viewing at the Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum.
First buried by Stony Plain residents in 1955 to celebrate the Alberta Golden Jubilee, the time capsule was rededicated in 1994 to carry the tradition forward another 25 years. The time capsule was unearthed at the Pioneer cenotaph in October of 2019 and reburied with items from the community, but due to COVID-19 the public unveiling of the 1994 display was postponed.
“The time capsule gives us a glimpse into the Stony Plain of the past and reconnects us with our community’s roots. We are excited to have the 1994 contents on display for residents and visitors to see,” says Culture and Tourism Development Officer Chantelle Laberge.
“Stony Plain really has come a long way since the time capsule was buried 25 years ago. Having these artifacts available for residents to explore is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our past and honour those who came before us,” says Mayor William Choy. “I encourage residents to stop by the Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum to see the display for themselves!”
The contents from the 1994 capsule are on permanent loan to the Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum and can be viewed at the Founder’s Building. Learn more about the museum by visiting the official website.
