RCMP Present First Quarterly Update for 2022

Inspector Lokken joined Council for a presentation of the first RCMP quarterly update for 2022. The update provides a closer look at crime statistics and RCMP activity in the community from January through to March. Updates are provided to council each quarter to monitor crime rates and compare statistics year over year.

CIBC Wood Gundy Joins Council for Investment Presentation

Council was joined by representatives from CIBC for an annual investment and economic update. Each year, an update is brought to Council to provide an overview of investment activity and cashflow projections.

Long Service Awards Recognize Town Staff

Three Town of Stony Plain employees have been recognized by the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators’ Long Service Recognition Awards Program. The award celebrates staff’s dedication to public service and municipal management.

Recipients for the 2022 awards include:

  • Thomas Goulden, Chief Administrative Officer – 20 years
  • Karl Hill, General Manager, Community and Protective Services – 15 years
  • Brenda Otto, General Manager, Strategic Services – 10 years

Town Continues Work on Emergency Management

Emergency preparedness is on the agenda and Council has received an update on the Town’s emergency management portfolio.

In December of 2021, Alberta Emergency Management Agency Field Officers conducted their annual review of the Town’s Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP) with positive results. The MEMP has since been updated to reflect the review recommendations.

Emergency management focuses for 2022 will include staff training, continued work to refine the MEMP, and community events focused on emergency preparedness such as Emergency Preparedness Day on May 7 outside Town Office.

Council Considers Criminal Record Check Fee Increase

Criminal Record Check fees at the Parkland RCMP detachment are under review. Earlier in the year, Council requested a review of the criminal records fees being charged in the region. Administration has reviewed the fees across regional departments and presented the fee schedules for information.

Administration has recommended a fee increase to align with the regional average. The revenue and bylaw implications of the new fees will be included in the 2023-2025 Corporate Plan to be discussed by Council in November.
