Highway 779 Update and Intersection Closure

Alberta Transportation has provided the following important update to the construction on Highway 779. Today, crews will be placing mulch in the median, between 55 and 52 Avenue. Monday, August 23 during the day, crews will be working on placing mulch in the median and placing topsoil and sod along the west side of 48 Street between 55 and 50 Avenue.

Beginning Monday, August 23 at 6:00 p.m. the intersection at 49 Avenue and 48 Street will be closed for reconstruction. Cold milling, base work and repaving operations will continue through Monday night, Tuesday during the day and Tuesday night. The intersection will re-open to traffic by 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 25. During the intersection closure detours will be set up. Access to all businesses and residences bordering the intersection will remain open to local traffic during the intersection closure.

Paving operations will switch to night paving for the remainder of the project starting Wednesday, August 25 at 6:00 p.m. The hours of the paving operations will be 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with short duration, temporary intersection closures to accommodate the paving operations. During the paving operations two-way traffic will be provided, with one lane in each direction, on the opposite side of the medians to the paving operations. Expect delays. Paving on the northbound lanes will start at 55 Avenue on Wednesday night and switch to the southbound lanes once the northbound lanes are complete.

Installation of permanent signage will resume on Tuesday, August 24 during the day and continue throughout the week. Placement of topsoil, sod and seeding will also continue during the day throughout the week.
