Highway 779 Update - June 18
Alberta Transportation has provided the following update to construction on Provincial Highway 779.
Crews will finish placing granular base in the back lanes on the west side of 48 Street and final grade and shape the lanes this weekend. Paving of the back lanes is scheduled for Tuesday June 22 and the lanes will be re-opened to traffic that evening.
The grade widening along 49th Avenue is now complete. While the new lanes remain closed to traffic the accesses to 7-11 and Sonora Apartments from 49 Avenue have been reopened. The 7-11 access off of 48 Street has been temporarily closed for reconstruction.
The landscaping crews will be placing topsoil and mulch in the medians south of 55 Avenue Friday and Saturday of this week.
Landscaping crews will begin landscaping the boulevard along the west side of 48 Street, between 55 and 53 Avenue starting Monday, June 21. All vehicles must be removed from the 48 street by 7:00 a.m. Monday morning to provide access to this work area for construction vehicles.
Crews are placing granular base for the separate sidewalk from 50 to 49 Avenue and east along 49 Avenue to the Sonora Apartments Friday, June 18. Crews will start pouring the concrete sidewalks on Saturday June 19th and are anticipated to be finished by Tuesday, June 22.
Work to complete and tie-in the multi-use trail on the west side of 48 Street and the curb & gutter on both sides of the roadway will begin on Monday, June 21 and continue throughout the week. During this time both the southbound and northbound curbside lanes will be closed from 49 to 47 Avenue.
Milling of the southbound lanes between Willow Park Road North and 55 Avenue will take place on Wednesday, June 23. Paving of these lanes is scheduled for Thursday and Friday of next week. During this time the southbound lanes will remain closed and both directions of traffic will be moved to the northbound lanes.
Asphalt patching crews will be on site next week to patch in and around the various commercial accesses that have been reconstructed so that they can be fully reopened to traffic.
