Inspired to Lead Program Opens Applications to Aspiring Community Leaders

STONY PLAIN, AB: The Inspired to Lead program will be returning to Stony Plain this fall. This free, three-month leadership program is designed to empower volunteers and strengthen community connections. Participants will join a network of emerging leaders, strengthen their personal leadership identity, and gain tools to create positive change in their neighbourhoods. Applications are now open, with the program beginning in October 2026.

The program is part of the Town of Stony Plain’s commitment to fostering a sense of community belonging and inclusion. This commitment involves enhancing civic engagement through volunteerism, neighbourhood development, and leadership opportunities.

“Inspired to Lead is a fantastic program for local volunteers who want to grow as community builders,” says Deanna Butz, Community Development Officer. “The goal is to help community members have a bigger impact on their neighbourhoods and the future of Stony Plain.”

Participants will take part in weekly virtual learning sessions and monthly in-person gatherings. Throughout the program, participants will design and implement a personalized community project aligned with their passions, experience, and goals.

“Stony Plain residents care deeply about our community and Inspired to Lead demonstrates a commitment to supporting local leaders who want to make a positive difference,” says Mayor William Choy. “This program elevates our dedicated volunteers and supports community connection.”

The Inspired to Lead program is open to residents of Stony Plain who are excited about the opportunity to make an impact and launch their own community project. For more information and to apply before September 15, visit the Volunteering webpage.
