International Day of Persons with Disabilities - December 3, 2025

WHEREAS International Day of Persons with Disabilities is recognized worldwide on December 3 and was first proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992; and

WHEREAS over one billion people, or approximately one in eight, live with some form of disability and too often face discrimination, differential treatment or barriers to access; and

WHEREAS all who live, work and visit Stony Plain benefit from the invaluable contributions of people with disabilities in every aspect of life; and

WHEREAS the Town of Stony Plain is committed to reducing barriers, improving access, and integrating a Diversity, Inclusion, Equality and Belonging (DIEB) lens into decision making, planning and service delivery; and

WHEREAS observance of this day is an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of people with disabilities, promote an understanding of barriers faced by people with disabilities, and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, access, and well-being of people with disabilities;

THEREFORE, I, Mayor William Choy of the Town of Stony Plain, do hereby proclaim December 3, 2025 as "International Day of Persons with Disabilities."
