Kick Off the Holidays in Stony Plain with Winter Fest

STONY PLAIN, AB: The holiday spirit is alive and well in Stony Plain as the community gears up for another season of Winter Fest celebrations! This year’s festivities include Winter Light Up, the all-new Moose on the Loose, and Family Fest, offering something special for everyone.

The celebration begins with Winter Light Up on November 30 in Downtown Stony Plain. From 6 to 8 PM, Main Street will come alive with music, lights, and holiday cheer. Meet Santa and bring your letters, or write one at Winter Fest, to send to the North Pole. Enjoy a by-donation BBQ hosted by the Kinsmen and grab treats from local businesses. Guests are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items, toys, gift cards, or cash for the Kinsmen Christmas Hampers, which will be collected at the BBQ. The lighting of the Town Tree will take place at 7 PM sharp but don’t worry Mrs. Claus and Santa will still be available for photos until the end of the event.

Once the Town Tree is lit, keep your eyes peeled because a Moose is on the Loose! Join the fun by picking up the clue and searching local businesses to find the festive moose. Snap a photo when you spot him and enter for a chance to win the prize draw on December 28. The winter hunt runs starts on November 30 and runs through December.

Winter Fest wraps up with Family Fest on December 31 at Heritage Park from 6 to 9 PM. This New Year’s Eve celebration features a live DJ, dance floor, photo booth, light meal free of charge provided by the Lions Club, and plenty of outdoor fun. Lace up your skates, hop on a horse-drawn sleigh ride (weather permitting), and warm up by the bonfire before enjoying fireworks at 9 PM. Guests are encouraged to bring donations for the Parkland Food Bank to help spread holiday joy in the community.

“Winter Fest is a beloved tradition in Stony Plain. It’s a time for community connection and creating lasting memories,” says Mayor William Choy. “Whether it’s watching the Town Tree light up or joining in the fun at Family Fest, Winter Fest captures the magic of the season for everyone.”

“We’re thrilled to bring Winter Fest back,” adds Event Coordinator Lori Van Dommelen. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to celebrate together, enjoy the holidays, and give back to our community.”

Donations for the Kinsmen Christmas Hampers will also be accepted until December 12 at Town Hall.
