New Broadband Strategy Connects Stony Plain to Greater Opportunities

A new Broadband Strategy for Stony Plain is in the works. Stakeholder engagement is underway, and the Town of Stony Plain is looking to residents and local businesses to provide feedback on current and future service needs.

The Broadband Strategy aims to develop broadband service standards and prepare Stony Plain for future technological advancements. A key aspect of the strategy includes an in-depth overview of the current state of internet quality and accessibility within the community to identify infrastructure gaps and areas in need of enhancements.  

“Addressing broadband infrastructure gaps and developing a strategy for Stony Plain is a priority for the Town as identified in the 2022 Corporate Plan. In an increasingly digital world, having robust broadband infrastructure in place has never been so important,” says Mayor William Choy. “From keeping in touch with loved ones to working and studying from home, internet access impacts nearly every aspect of our lives. We are excited for the opportunities the Broadband Strategy will bring to our community, for both residents and for local businesses.”

“With the Broadband Strategy in place, Stony Plain will be better positioned to stand as a competitive player in the regional economy. Local businesses rely on high-quality internet access not only for day-to-day operations, but for growing their business, accessing opportunities outside their locale, and reaching new audiences. This new strategy will link Stony Plain’s local business network to global opportunities,” says Economic Development Officer Michelle Levasseur.

Stony Plain community members are invited to share their perspectives on current and future internet needs. Two online surveys will be available, including one for residents and an additional survey for business owners. The surveys will be available until October 30, 2022.
