Nominations Open to Celebrate the Youth Shaping Stony Plain

STONY PLAIN, AB: Stony Plain youth are shaping the community and the future through volunteerism and leadership. Nominations are now open for Stony Plain’s first Youth Volunteer Recognition Awards to recognize their achievements and celebrate their stories.

The Youth Volunteer Recognition Awards honour the youth who give back and build community pride, and demonstrate ongoing commitment to selfless service. Anyone can submit a nomination, including self-nominations.

“These awards recognize the young people who embody the spirit of community in Stony Plain,” says Mayor William Choy. “If you know a youth or young adult who goes above and beyond to make our community stronger, we encourage you to take the time to nominate them.”

The categories for Youth Volunteer Recognition Award nominations are: 

• Emerging Volunteer (ages 11-14)
• Youth Leader (ages 15-18)
• Young Adult Changemaker (ages 19-25)
• Group or Team Excellence
• Innovation in Service
• Long-Term Service Award

The Youth Volunteer Recognition Awards celebrate individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the community through volunteerism. These individuals give their time and energy to support others, strengthen local organizations, and make a lasting impact in Stony Plain. Nominees embody the spirit of community, showing dedication, compassion, and a willingness to lead by example.

“Stony Plain youth have a huge impact on the future of our town,” says Lara Stadnyk, Community Development Officer. “Their ongoing commitment to volunteerism, changemaking, and leadership deserves recognition, and we are excited to introduce the Youth Volunteer Recognition Awards to honour these youth leaders.”

Nominations close October 30, with recipients announced at this year’s Day of the Volunteer Youth Event on December 5.
