Organizational Meeting Highlights for November 3, 2025

Newly Elected Council Sworn In

The Town of Stony Plain has welcomed the newly elected Town Council. Mayor William Choy and Councillors Justin Anderson, Justin Laurie, Melanie Loyns, Eric Meyer, Miranda Niebergall, and Harold Pawlechko were sworn into Council during last night’s Organizational Meeting.

Councillor Eric Meyer Appointed Deputy Mayor

The Deputy Mayor is a member of Council who is appointed by Council to act as Mayor in the absence or incapacity of the Mayor. The Deputy Mayor position is appointed to each Councillor in a rotation. At last night’s Council Meeting, Councillor Eric Meyer was sworn in as Deputy Mayor effective until February 28, 2026.

Council Approves 2025-2026 Meeting Schedule

Council approved the 2025–2026 Council meeting schedule. All Governance and Priorities Committee and Regular Council meetings will begin at 5 PM, and Corporate Plan meetings will begin at 4:30 PM. Meetings will take place at the Town Office Council Chambers located at 4905 51 Avenue, Stony Plain.
This schedule establishes the dates, times, and locations for Council meetings through to the 2026 Organizational Meeting.

Council Appoints to Agencies, Boards, and Commissions

During last night’s meeting, Council members were appointed to various Agencies, Boards, and Commissions for the 2025 to 2026 term. These appointments ensure Stony Plain’s interests are represented on local and regional committees and that the Town continues to play an active role in collaborative governance and community partnerships.

Citizen-at-Large Board Appointments

At last night’s meeting, Council appointed public members to fill vacancies on various Council-appointed boards and committees effective January 1, 2026.

Community and Social Development Roundtable:

•    Rennee Keough: 2-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027)
•    Lonnie Stewardson: 2-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027)

Culture and Tourism Roundtable

•    Kelsey McEwan: 1-year term (January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026)
•    Brenda Reeve: 2-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027)
•    Brian Baker: 2-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027)
•    Grace Chychul: 2-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027)
•    Sheri Minard: 2-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027)
•    Tammy MacKay: 2-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027)
•    Judy Bennett: 2-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027)

Planning Advisory Committee

•    Hugh Ritchie: 2-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027)

Stony Plain Library Board

•    Dawn Horne: 3-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028)
•    Jane MacDiarmid: 3-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028)
•    Milene Albers: 3-year term (January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028)
