Parkland Potters’ Guild Honoured with 2026 Award of Creative Excellence

STONY PLAIN, AB: The Parkland Potters’ Guild has been awarded the Town of Stony Plain’s Award of Creative Excellence, recognizing its longstanding contributions to the arts, cultural initiatives, and community identity. The award was presented during the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce Business Awards of Distinction held last evening.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026, the Parkland Potters’ Guild is an entirely volunteer-run and self-funded organization that has become a cornerstone cultural institution in Stony Plain. Through classes, workshops, and participation in community events, the Guild has introduced generations of people to the ceramic arts. Its Crooked Pot Gallery provides a venue for artists to showcase their work and offers a selection of affordable, unique pottery for purchase. The Guild also supports local charities through annual fundraisers.

“For five decades, the Parkland Potters’ Guild has demonstrated what can be accomplished through a shared passion for the arts and a commitment to giving back,” says Mayor William Choy. “Their dedication has helped make Stony Plain a more vibrant and welcoming place, and we are proud to recognize their achievements with this well-deserved honour.”

To commemorate its anniversary, the Guild partnered with the Town to unveil a new mural entitled Rooted in Clay. Created by the talented artists of the Guild, the mural adds to Stony Plain’s public art collection and provides a lasting tribute to the organization’s history and deep roots in the community.

“The Parkland Potters’ Guild is an excellent example of how grassroots arts organizations contribute to a thriving cultural sector,” says Culture and Tourism Development Officer Chantelle Laberge. “Their work enriches Stony Plain’s cultural identity, supports local artists, and contributes to the experiences that make our town an appealing destination for visitors and a special place to call home.
