Speed Limit Reduction on Local and most Collector Roads in Residential Areas Approved

Council gave first, second, and third readings to Bylaw 2737/G/26, a bylaw to amend Traffic Bylaw 2677/G/23 to reduce posted speed limits on local roads and most collector roads in residential areas from 50 km/h to 40 km/h, effective end of July 2026, to enhance road safety and support livable neighbourhoods.

The change follows a 2025 speed study that reviewed local and collector roads, including traffic speed data, field visits, jurisdictional scan, roadway characteristics, roadside features, and surrounding land use, and aligns with the Safe System approach.
