Councillor Justin Laurie Appointed Deputy Mayor 

The Deputy Mayor is a member of Council who is appointed by Council to act as Mayor in the absence or incapacity of the Mayor. The Deputy Mayor position is appointed to each Councillor in a rotation. At last night’s Council meeting, a motion was passed for Councillor Justin Laurie to be sworn in as Deputy Mayor effective March 1, 2026 until June 30, 2026.

Cemetery Update Presented to Council for Information 

Last night, Administration provided Council with an update on the cemetery project as construction continues toward a planned 2026 opening. Major milestones completed in 2025 include site preparation, paving, trail development, tree planting, columbarium installation, signage, and public art. Final work this spring and summer will include surveying, plot marking, turf establishment, monument installation, and completion of the scattering garden. 

A phased approach to opening will guide service availability, with columbarium sales expected to begin in May, scattering garden anticipated to open in July, and burial plots available in September, pending ground readiness.
