Shikaoi Student Delegation Presentation
Last night, the Shikaoi Student Delegation presented to council regarding the annual Shikaoi Exchange Program. As part of the program, the Town of Stony Plain sends a delegation of students every year to the Town of Shikaoi Hokkaido, Japan. This year, from July 13 to 27, eight students and two chaperones travelled to Japan.
The students spent time in Tokyo, Shikaoi, and Sapporo and shared highlights of their time in Japan and their experiences and activities with their host families with Council.
Council accepted the presentation for information.
TransAlta TriLeisure Centre Operating Budget
Council accepted the 2027 TransAlta TriLeisure Centre (TLC) operating budget for information. In the third quarter of each year, the TLC delivers a funding presentation to the three municipal owners, the Town of Stony Plain, Parkland County, and the City of Spruce Grove.
The presentation included the 2025 Annual Report and the Board approved budget for the upcoming operational year (2027). The 2027 budget will be included in the Town of Stony Plain 2027-2029 Corporate Plan for consideration. Stony Plain’s proportionate share of the projected 2027 municipal contribution is $1,116,083.
Land Use Bylaw Revision
Last night, Council gave all three readings to Bylaw 2747/LUO/26. This revised the Land Use Bylaw 2735/LUO/26 to carry forward a change that was inadvertently omitted from Willow Park Stage 10A — Land Use Bylaw Amendment Bylaw 2721/LUO/25. The change involved a restriction on the maximum number of dwelling units for a specific area where the related figure was included but the corresponding text was not when the bylaw was consolidated.
South Creek Land Use Bylaw Amendment
Council authorized Administration to reschedule the public hearing for Bylaw 2745/LUO/26, a bylaw to amend Land Use Bylaw 2735/LUO/26. The public hearing for South Creek Stage 5 has been rescheduled from September 28, 2026 to October 26, 2026. This schedule allows the Planning Advisory Committee to review the application at their regular meeting in October and resolves scheduling constraints for Administration and the applicant.
Volunteerism and Civic Engagement Strategy Update
Since 2024 several initiatives have been completed in the Volunteerism and Civic Engagement Strategy, including improvements to the Better Impact volunteer database, expanded volunteer promotion and recognition, the launch of the Inspired to Lead program, and continued leadership opportunities for volunteers and community organizations.
Administration also shared that an environmental scan will be completed in 2027 to help understand changes in the volunteer environment and inform future priorities.
Council accepted the update on the Volunteerism and Civic Engagement Strategy as information.
