Council Reviews 2005 Annexation of Farmland in Stony Plain
Council was notified of an upcoming expiration of an Order in Council that detailed the annexation of farmland in Stony Plain. The Order dates to November of 2005 wherein the annexation of certain lands to the Town of Plain was approved.
The Order allowed for the Town assessor to classify and assess any farmland, farm residences, and farm buildings and apply the tax rate as if located in Parkland County. The Order received extensions from the Minister of Municipal Affairs in 2013 and 2017 with the intention of providing landowners with a transition period mitigating tax impacts to these properties.
The annexation has not been given an extension and will expire at the end of 2022. Impacted landowners will receive notice of the annexation expiration by letter for the 2023 tax year.
